Wyomissing School District Homes for Sale

Wyomissing-Area-School-District-HeaderWyomissing became a borough in Berks County, Pennsylvania, early in the 1900’s. About 100 years later, it merged to become a part of the neighboring Wyomissing Hills. Today, Wyomissing Borough is the most populated in the county.

Originally, the Lenape (Delaware) Native Americans resided along Wyomissing Creek and gave it the name of Wyomissing which means “The Land of Flats”. During the late 1600’s, the majority of Berks County was transferred from the Native American tribe to William Penn. The resulting two parcels of land were the site of building and industry development. Today, the Evans Grist Mill still stands at the corner of Old Mill Road and Old Wyomissing Road as a symbol of early industry. Later, industry continued to develop which related to the Reading business and railroad activities.

One reason that real estate in Wyomissing offers appeal to so many newcomers today is the area’s reputation as a positive business and residential area. Businesses relocating from Reading as well as residents who appreciate the many restaurants, community amenities and beautiful neighborhoods are drawn to the area. Homes for sale in Wyomissing Borough are attractive to families for their suburban setting in the midst of the top rated Wyomissing School District.

Wyomissing Borough is also recognized as Tree City USA as well as being a “Contender” as one of the best places to live in the state of Pennsylvania in Money Magazine. A feature attraction of the area is the Wyomissing Park System, with more than 200 acres of woodland, streams, fields and recreation areas that are frequented by residents and visitors year round. Playing in the cool creek during the summer and sledding down the snow covered hills in the winter are some favorite activities that play a role in keeping homes for sale in West Reading Borough in high demand.

Today, Wyomissing Borough appears much differently from that of the original farmland to a large residential and commercial community. The Hartman Farm which is situated at the intersection of Papermill and Woodland Roads was the last farm worked in the areas. The land was sold in the early 1990’s to be used as commercial development. It includes the “Woodmill Commons” area.

Today, the Borough thrives due to commercial and retail centers, such as the Berkshire Mall and numerous other generous shopping centers. While crime has become abnormally high in the urban center of Reading, the opportunity to buy homes for sale in Wyomissing Borough offers the best of both worlds to businesses and residents alike.
