You are going to to buy or sell a Berks County or Reading, PA home and decide you may be hiring a Realtor. Do you ask friends, relatives or neighbors who they know or used, and if they were satisfied with their service? This is better known to real estate agents as a referral.
To me, a referral from a past client, friend or anyone who knows me, is one of the highest forms of gratitude I receive. This means that the referrer trusted me and was happy enough with my performance that they were willing to put their reputation on the line and pass my name along to someone else who is in need of the same. It is truly a high honor.
Before the advent of the internet, this was a primary way Berks County home buyers and sellers connected with an agent. Even today, it is estimated that around 40% of all home buyers depend on an agent referral from friends or relatives to choose their real estate agent. During this same time, the percentage of people who choose a real estate agent online is at around 12% and climbing fast.
Things are changing rapidly. Many consumers now shop online and look for reviews from people who have had experience with a product or service before making a purchase decision. I myself tend to investigate almost everything I purchase on the web. It has become a way of doing business that was made popular by websites like EBay and Amazon.com. Now people will read reviews on a box of paper clips to see which will suit them best and, in many cases, trust the reviews when making that decision.
The reason I believe reviews are becoming more popular when choosing a Realtor® is that it provides a more diverse opinion. Reading product or service reviews online also offers timely and immediate information when it is desired. As people’s lives become more complicated with work, family and stuff, they have less time to ponder therefore mass information is quick and easy.
A referral is one person’s opinion of a product or service. If an agent has 50 reviews on a website like Zillow.com, 30 on Trulia.com and 20 on Stik.com, that is 100 opinions. The question is this…Does the opinion of the family member, friend or acquaintance outweigh the massive amount of information provided on the internet? That can only be answered by asking how much influence the person giving advice has with the customer.
My answer…Choosing a Realtor® is a very important decision for anyone to make. I say use any and all information at your disposal. This means ask the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker if you need to. Make sure you do ask those you trust and weigh their ideas against your own research online. Read those reviews!
In my 20 years as a Realtor® serving Berks County, Pennsylvania area, I have had many people refer me to their friends and family. It has been in the last 4 or 5 years that my customers have been going online and leaving reviews about my service. I am truly humbled by their kind words. It is their words, God and my family that get me up every day.
I have listed the three websites below where my past customers have left reviews about me. There are almost 200 of them and every one of them is precious to me. My hope is that when the time comes to buy or sell your home in Berks County or Reading, PA that these reviews give you reason to consider my services.
Maybe you can be the next review (or refer) me!
