Exeter Township was founded December 7th, 1741. Previously considered part of Oley Township, the area’s residents petitioned Philadelphia County to become a separate Township six months after the establishment of 700-Fabers-Road-3Oley. The actual name of the Township, “Exeter”, is generally credited to the George Boone family. That family was from a town called Bradninch, England, just outside the town of Exeter. Many similarities still exist between the two cities, among them being the geography, soil type, and proximity to a town called St. Lawrence. In 1775 settlers built an 18 x 13 log cabin, bank barn and spring house on this home site. In 2008 the present owner decided to purchase the property and build around the original log cabin. Now the cabin is the centerpiece of this unique home. The owner has done a magnificent job in keeping with the look of the period. the doors are beaded hardwood with all the handles and hinges you would expect to see in 1775. The random width hardwood floors run throughout the home. The kitchen cabinetry, fireplace and decor also mimic the look of the day. While the home maintains the charm of the late 1700′s it does sport many of today’s amenities. The country kitchen has a vaulted ceiling with skylights. It also has stainless appliances and even a pot filler. The master bath was 2 bedrooms converted to one large room that now features a cathedral ceiling, sitting area with a wood stove, study/craft room and a luxury bath with tile flooring and shower. It also has 2 closets. Obviously something that was not common in 1775. There is an over-sized 2-car garage with workshop and the original basement area. The mechanics have been upgraded and include gas propane forced air, central air conditioning, Rinnai tank-less gas hot water heater, upgraded wiring and newer roof. Outside there is a 17 x 8 covered and screened three season area along with a covered porch. the bank barn has been refinished and adds utility and character to the property. The pond and spring house complete the picture. The location is convenient to many amenities. Please preview the great home photos and let us know what you think. Thank you for your interest.
